I feel that my writing has much improved during the span of this course. I have always struggled with organization as well as formatting and these are two areas that I have seen a lot of development. In my first paper I can see how I was unsure of the placement of things, which is a skill that visibly progressed in the next projects. The process that I tried out for the second paper was to make an outline first and then slowly add in synthesis from research and quotes, then finally turn bullet points and ideas into full sentences. This process made it easiest for things to flow and I believe this is how my visual argument ended up being so detailed. Repetition has been key when it comes to documentation. I found also found some great online resources that made the process easier as well. Ever since I first began writing papers, I always struggled with citations, yet ASA has become a breeze to me. I have also gotten better in distinguishing credible/scholarly sources from the non-scholarly ones. I have also gotten better in incorporating information from sources into my paper while still making it my own. I always received criticism for over-quoting in high school, but now I have learned the balance. This was most evident in Project 3, my argumentative paper.
Overall, I appreciate the wiggle-room Dr. J gave us to explore our own ideas and make each project creatively our own. He has encouraged us to think for ourselves in all aspects of our lives, not just writing. Along with the freedom, he has also ensured proper feedback on each project to make sure we are headed in the right direction. He is talented in giving constructive criticism as well as compliments. Along with writing tips, our in-class discussions allowed us to gain insight on real-world topics. Thank you for all you have taught me this semester which will prove useful in my future endeavors. |
